Below are the details and care instructions for our hides to help ensure their longevity and quality.
Goat Hides
Our goat hides are hand-tanned by us. They are not chemically treated.
• Surface cleaning with a damp towel is allowed
• Not machine washable
Sheep Hides
Our sheep hides are collected from our lamb share harvest and professionally processed by Bucks County Fur Products.
Washing Instructions (Sheep Hides Only)
Sheep hides are processed to be washable; however, for best results, we highly recommend sending them back to us for cleaning.
Important Care Notes
• Do not use laundry detergents – detergents remove natural oils and can harden the leather
• Never use hot water or heat
• Never tumble dry
We recommend Leather Therapy products (available on Amazon) for washing wool and leather.
Hand Washing:
Place the hide in a tub and fully submerge until thoroughly saturated. Gently churn to move the soap through the fibers and allow to soak for 5–10 minutes. Rinse well and gently squeeze out excess water.
Machine Washing:
Set machine to a gentle cycle. Once soaked, allow brief churning only—the more agitation, the more the wool will mat. Let soak 5–10 minutes, then spin briefly to remove excess water. Rinse if necessary.
Drying:
Line dry only. While damp, stretch to shape and brush with a soft wire brush.
Never tumble dry, as this will cause matting.
Please note: We do not guarantee pelts through washing.
